The Chapel in the Fields

Become a Friend

The Chapel, outside from the front

Be part of our vision for the Chapel in the Fields - a place of creativity, spirituality, hospitality and worship and a resource for the wider community.

Sinderland Green Methodist Chapel lies in the countryside south west of Manchester, near Dunham Massey. We want it to become the heart of a network of people focused on spirituality and creativity, making connections and sharing stories.

With support from the Methodist Church nationally, the Manchester and Stockport District is making the Chapel a centre for Godly Play; the telling of faith stories in an open way which invites reflection and response. Godly Play will also be taken into schools, letting children and young people hear stories of faith in RE lessons.

The workshop space created in the old vestry and kitchen will be a place for people to find meaningful activity in making wooden resources. Time spent in the workshop will be time for reflection and discussion. Working by hand and with wood can be therapeutic, participating together and building relationships.

An important thread in the life of the Chapel will be the continuing worship and fellowship of the existing congregation.  Other churches and groups from outside the church will be encouraged to spend time sharing in the Chapel’s peaceful setting, taking time for reflection, prayer, creativity, worship, and training.

We want everyone who has an experience through the Chapel to feel that they are welcomed and that they are sharing something with a wider community.  For that reason, it is an important part of our vision that we develop a community of people who support the Chapel and feel part of what it is doing.  We are inviting people to become Friends of the Chapel and we aim to build the Friends into a meaningful and stimulating network.  If you give us your e-mail address we will use it to send information to you.  We want the network and the relationships to develop in a flexible way but we have it in mind to offer:

Stained glass window - fields

  • resources for prayer and reflection on a regular basis
  • updates, stories and photos as things happen
  • a means of sharing stories, experiences and reflections
  • opportunities to share in creative worship
  • advance notice of special events
  • an annual Friends celebration

Simple moral and prayerful support is really important to us.  We also hope that people who become Friends will feel able to offer practical support for some of our activities and financial support.  There is no obligation about practical support and no minimum for financial support but if you are able to help even in a small way it will give us financial certainty and enable us to plan more activities more effectively.  If you can help in this way, please fill in the online form and set up a Standing Order from your bank using the details you will be given on completion. Or you can click on the donate button below to make a one off donation.

Thank you for sharing our vision.
